Scott Fitzgerald became the new British super-welterweight champion after staging a late assault to seal several points win over Ted Cheeseman at Newcastle.
The unbeaten 27-year-old has been made to dig deep after becoming defeated by Cheeseman boxing, but Fitzgerald hauled him to make a unanimous decision with scores of 116-113, 116-113 and 115-113.
As Cheeseman circled the ring, answering with a few left hands of his own taking the centre of the ring Fitzgerald pushed out stiff jabs from the opening bell.
Cheeseman displayed movement that was clever, landing a combination that was crisp along with the Londoner appreciated more success from the third using his jab.
The Preston man responded with punches, although fitzgerald struggled to pin down Cheeseman, who picked him off in the fourth.
Back came Cheeseman in the sixth, sending a jolting uppercut during his opponents guard, and the Fitzgerald had to withstand a direct right hand at the seventh.
Into the eighth, the attention was caught by the other uppercut from Cheeseman, but Fitzgerald hammered as both stood and traded at the ninth.
Fitzgerald was drawing on the Bermondsey fighter to a late struggle, bloodying his nose in the 10th, and Cheeseman had been on the receiving end of full-body body shots in the final two rounds.
